Striders Alternative Series – 2010 Race List   

The Striders Alternative Series is a separate series of races from the main club championship.  The series is intended to cover a broad range of events that will appeal to a many Club Members not just those who like their running a little more challenging. The series includes road races, pleasant trail races, fell races as well as the more unusual events like Race The Train and The Killer Mile. The winners (male and female) will qualify for a separate award at the club awards dinner. The series is all about having a go and having fun and this is reflected in the scoring method which awards 50 points just for turning up.

Points will be scored according to the following formula:-

 NOW NSPCC Sandstone Trail Race 10k 10k of Cheshire’s famous Sandstone Trail, takes in a variety of terrain and encompasses wonderful views and countryside, new course with less gates and stiles for 2010.

 		 Hanchurch Hilly 5 miles

A mix of winding paths, woodland tracks and hills provide a route that is constantly changing. Watch for the sting in the tail...(nr Newcastle, approx 25 mins from Sandbach)

 On Day Mow Cop Hill Race 6.5 miles A new fell race  6.5 miles and 1200ft of ascent. The course will be partially marked and marshalled. Approx 1 mile of road in the race, lots of mud.

 NOW Newcastle 7 7 Miles One of Staffordshire's longest running road race fixtures, it winds its way up the tough but rewarding Black Bank before descending into Silverdale and a fast run in to the finish just off Silverdale Road.

 NOW Milford Murder 5 Miles

Two loops on good tracks through Cannock Chase heath land and woods above Milford Common. A start and finish that takes in the notorious Oat Hill with some fast down hill sections. Not for the faint hearted! (approx 45 mins from Sandbach)

 NOW South Cheshire 20 20 miles 20 miles of frequently hilly, mainly country lanes through Weston, Englesea-brook, Betley, Wrinehill, Shraleybrook, Audley, Barthomley.

 NOW Mow Cop Killer Mile 1 mile Only a mile and on road, just a bit steep and I don't mean the entry fee!

 NOW Kibblestone Clamber 5 miles

A unique race of three laps round the Scout Camp at Kibblestone, just outside Stone. A mix of fields, woodlands, streamside paths and steps. One half seems all downhill whilst the other half makes up for the first! (approx. 35 mins from Sandbach)
Wed 12/05/10 NOW Shady Oak Tough 10k, Fernilee 10k The course is a very scenic and testing single lap measured route on quiet country lanes with a section of 1750m on rough track.
Thurs 20/05/10 NOW Mobberley multi-terrain 5.3miles 1 lap course on scenic roads, paths and bridleways
near to Manchester Airport 2nd Runway including the spectacular River Bollin Tunnel.
5/06/10 Info Wincle Trout Race 6 miles ENTER EARLY! Brilliant country fete with a popular fell run, great day out for the family, duck herding with dogs a definite highlight!

 Info Halfgallathon, Lathkill Dale 4 pints Unsubtle mix of fancy dress, running and a half gallon of beer. Not for the weak willed or faint hearted. Golden rule:- THERE WILL BE NO SPILLAGE!
July???  On night The Gun Run, Swythamley 9.5k A nice introduction to fell running, not too hard and a very friendly atmosphere with plenty of tea and cake.
