Chester Spring 5, organised by West Cheshire A C club. Good turn out from our club, the first time for a few of us. Driving towards Chester, the wind was blowing and as we approached Chester it started to rain, it did blow over, but the cold wind stayed with us, extra layers for everyone was a must.
Not a great start line a bit narrow for the amount racing. Then two cars approached the runners causing more confusion. Eventually the gun went off, and for a lot of us it was a slow walk to start. After about a mile the field began to split up. The mile markers were very clear. The wind died down a little. Occasionally a few cars came towards the runners, what were the marshals actually doing? According to the East Cheshire AC web page.It says that the route as been relocated to give a faster getaway and as a result of the course changes an increased amount of road closures were being carried out. The course was undulating, slight down hill with a bit of a climb near the end, the last mile or so was flat. Then it was a right turn onto the playing fields, off the main road. Still the odd car approaching on the home stretch. There was a good crowd to cheer everybody on, which made up for the disappointing start.
Congratulations to everybody for getting a pb. Well now the team are off to the Blue Cap for a post race review. I look forward to do it again next year, the organisers may resolve the traffic issue by then. Anyway congratulations everyone on a good result.
