Sandbach Striders

This Saturday (22nd September) sees the 1st birthday of our friends at the Hanley 5k Parkrun!
Paul, Heather, Mik and Liz at a Hanley Parkrun earlier this year.

To celebrate they are having a fancy dress parkun on that day – the theme is Best of British – followed by a picnic near the bandstand in Hanley Park.
Parkrun is a running phenomena. An ever growing number of 5k races that are held every Saturday all over the country (and increasingly in other countries too)

They are friendly, inclusive events that are suitable for all standards of runners from walkers through to olympic wannabies. And best of all, they are absolutely FREE.

The course in Hanley is a two and a bit lap route around the faded Victorian splendour of Hanley Park. Parking is plentiful and free, plus there is a fantastic cafe called Flavours just around the corner for a post-run coffee and oatcake.

To run any Parkrun you just need to register for free at their website, print off a barcode and then you can enter any Parkrun whenever and wherever you like.

If you want to see a big improvement in your fitness and speed then mix a regular 5k into your training program (just remember to go easy on the oatcakes afterwards :-) )

To my knowledge Striders' have run at least Parkruns at 10 different venues and I've never heard a bad review yet. Plus we aren't far off logging 100 results at Hanley!
