Liverbird Marathon Double - 31st Dec – 1st Jan
Strider Jason Bulley had to limit his New Year celebrations this year because he was running the Liverbird Marathon Double, marathon No1 on New Years Eve and marathon No2 on New Years day, utter madness.
Starting and finishing on the promenade near Brunswick Dock in Liverpool, opposite the Pipe Centre.
A very simple marathon, you start on the promenade in Toxteth, run along it for 3.3 miles to where it runs out, touch the wall and run back to the start. Complete four laps and your marathon is then complete.
Jason writes, every once in a while you start a marathon and your body says 'no'.

It's not an "I'm injured and can't run" type of no, it's more of a "if you insist on making me do this I'm going to make it really miserable for you. So, no drinks stations (we were pre-warned) a concrete running surface, out and back four times with a smattering of torrential rain and 35mph gusts made for day one to be 'purgatory'.
Day two started with the excitement of the gates to get onto the promenade actually being locked. Being unable to contact anyone who could open them it was decided we would run a mile along the inside of the fence through an industrial estate to a gap which would allow us back onto the promenade.
There was no rain on the second day but the wind was much more constant and much harder than the first. It was straight in our faces on each of the 3 mile homeward stretches which made it almost impossible to run.

Northampton Parkrun (5k) – 5th Jan 2013
Sandbach Striders chairman Michael Escolme added yet another Parkrun to his tally at the racecourse in Northampton.
The run takes place on the Racecourse in central Northampton. The start is positioned behind the Pavilion car park, Kettering Road, adjacent to the basketball and tennis courts.
The course follows the perimeter tarmac paths of the park and consists of two laps going in an anti-clockwise direction. The first lap consists of almost a full loop of the park. The second lap turns left at the start, consisting of a shorter lap.
The finish is 80m past the start and heads in a 30 degree angle finishing on the grass marked by a finishing funnel.
