Sandbach Striders

A big well-done to all of our Predictathon 2014 finishers!
And they're off!
Also a big thank you to our helpers and marshalls tonight: Perry Wyatt, Dave Parr, Martin Gunther, Craig Edwards, Jason Bulley and Jill and Andre who ran as tail runners.

Pre-race instructions: No GPS / no watches / no phones!
There was some quality predicting with John Wright coming in just 2 seconds from his predicted time. The prediction record of 1 second held by Perry Wyatt from 2013 still stands however - will it ever get beaten?
Terry heads to the line as third finisher but way off his prediction
New Strider Pat Kirk picked up the wooden spoon for worst prediction, which given he'd never run the course before might have been predicted! But at the same time managed to knock nearly 12 minutes off his predicted time in the process - an excellent performance.
Rick and new Strider Nick couldn't be separated on time but were 30 seconds apart on predictions
A slight mess-up with the results meant that Jo Bulley should have been 3rd Female - oops sorry Jo!

Other results of note include Tim Morris who finished as first Strider, an excellent performance to beat Tony into second place. Mat Simister ran his fastest Sandbach 10k time by over 2 minutes. Fran Gilchrist ran a blazing last 100 metres when he should have been slowing down. Megan Latham managed yet another first position after her success recently in the club 10k handicap. Paul Nicholls ran 5 minutes under his predicted time, his legs clearly in better shape than he predicted after his ultra-marathon just a few days earlier. Sophie Bunte might have been even further from her predicted time had she not got lost on the final stretch back to the club! Nick Frost and Grant Stanning had to fight it out for third place after both finishing just 6 seconds off their predicted times. With only one box of chocolates a run-off was hastily organised, first to the chocs won them. Grant was quick out of the blocks, so quick in fact that if he'd have run at that pace all the way round he'd have been in the UK athletics squad.

Blah blah blah.
It was also great to see some many Striders stay to the end and celebrate the achievements of the winners. Also many thanks to those Striders who kept an eye on the new runners who joined us tonight for the first time.
