Sandbach Striders

Members of Sandbach Striders running club continue to turn out in force at the free weekly 5k parkrun at Astbury Mere each Saturday morning, this week especially so as it was the 100th anniversary of this popular event.

New personal best times were recorded by Heather Carter, Nick Hogan, Kelley Underwood, Grant Stanning, Amy Norman and Jan Walls.

Meanwhile in Hereford Michael Escolme ran the Hereford parkrun along the Great Western Way close to Hereford city centre. Michael finished in 22:45.

Even further south in Devon, two Striders ran the Parke parkrun which started in the Parke Estate, near Bovey Tracey. Husband and wife duo Gordon and Cheryl Hutchins finished the parkrun in 27:45 and 30:02 respectively.

This week also saw the second running the ‘Hell of a Hill’. This low key event consists of five marathons in five days, each consisting of four laps up and down a hill near Bolton. at Simister participated on Day 1 and finished in 5:34:55 and Paul Nicholls participated on Day 4 and finished in 6:20:03

Also in action at the weekend was Fran Gilchrist who ran the Autumn Shakespeare half-marathon. This race takes place on an airfield, which the runners traverse 4 times. Fran earned himself a new personal best time of 1:39:54

Sandbach Striders are a friendly, supportive and inclusive running club who welcome new members of all abilities. Prospective members are welcome to run with the club for a month with no obligation to join. 

This coming Monday we will be running an off-road torchlight run starting at the Edgerton Arms in Astbury village. Meeting at the Club at 18:30 or at the pub at 18:50. be prepared to get a little muddy! The plan is flexible, so depending on who turns up - all Striders are welcome!
