Members of Sandbach Striders running club once more competed in a wide variety of events around the country.

In Congleton at the free weekly 5k parkrun around Astbury Mere, fourteen striders finished the three lap course. Nick Hogan , Denise Dowling and Gillian Roycoft all earned themselves new 5k personal best times, as did Molly and Heidi Pheasey.

Michael Escolme ran the 5k parkrun at Brandon Country Park in Suffolk. This two lap route around the woodland trails of the old Brandon park estate, the rout includes a bamboo plantation, a Victorian mausoleum and a Giant redwood tree. Michael finished in 33:13

Tony Taylor ran the Shuttlinsloe Fell Race, a short but brutal 3.5 mile race Shuttlinsloe  hill near the village of Wildboarclough, in the east of Cheshire. Tony finished in a time of 30 :40.

Husband and wife duo Jo and Jason Bulley took part in the 27 mile Baslow Bootbash. Starting Start: at Baslow village hall In the Derbyshire Dales, the route passes through Chatsworth, Deep Dale and Eyam. The intrepid duo finished the event in 6 hours 11 minutes

Striders were also represented in no less than four different triathlon events this weekend.


At the Cockermouth Triathlon in West Cumbria, Alice Bober finished the sprinr distance in a time of 1 hour 25 minutes.

In Oxfordshire, three Striders completed the sprint distance of the Blenheim Palace triathlon.

In the county of Gwynedd in the scenic coastal town of Abersoch, Tony Taylor completed the sprint distance triathlon in 1:38:22

In Stoke-on-Trent three Striders ran 13.1 miles around the Potteries in the Potters ’Arf Half-marathon. Despite the challenging course Lindsay Beeston managed to run a new personal best time.

Sandbach, Middlewich, Alsager, Holmes Chapel and beyond for over ten years.
