Sandbach Striders

Sunday morning at the seaside it must be the Blackpool Hilton Half Marathon. This race was organised by Fylde Coast Runners and has been run for the last 16 years in aid of "Hilton in the Community Foundation". The weather was hot with a strong breeze coming from the south east. After a quick briefing from the organisers we were off.

The course was two laps of two loops which was slightly different than advertised as the prom was closed around Anchorsholme Park at the most northern part of the race. The course ran first south along the upper part of the prom and then dropped down to the lower part of the prom heading north. The northen lower legs of the loops were out of the wind which meant the south legs were up hill and into the wind climbing back to the upper prom. After a couple of very welcome water points I was heading past the 13th mile marker staring at the clock ticking up those seconds.

I finished in 1:31:50 - 14th place out of a field of 146 and first in the MV50 category winning a bottle of wine and some chocolates. I was pleased with the result, especially since everyone finishing in front of me was younger!

Overall a very good race.
