The quiet morning must have been a results of Striders preparing themselves for the annual Mulled Wine Run. 20 Striders donned elf outfits, Santa costumes and fairy wings and adorned themselves with as many lights as they had pockets to fit the battery packs in to and took to the streets of Sandbach. They ran a 10k route around the town, stopping off at members houses for canapes, a turkey dinner and finally dessert, washed down with mulled wine. If the number of beeps and shout outs were anything to go by, Sandbach was thoroughly entertained by the spectacle!

On Sunday morning Paul Nicholls took part in The Cardington Cracker with another 200 runners who braved the freezing December weather. The race is 9 miles and 2,600 feet of hard trails but well worth it for the views. Paul finished in 2.43.11.

Chris and Jill Brumby headed to the Peak District to take part in a 10.45 mile trail run organised by Black and White Events. The run took in Tittesworth Reservoir and rocky ridges of The Roaches and Hen Cloud.

At the other end of the running spectrum, a number of Striders also braved the cold at the Run North West Wilmslow 10k. The predominantly flat, scenic route heads out of Wilmslow along Knutsford Road before looping back round to Burleyhurst Lane and finishing on Sandy Lane. Results were:

Tony Taylor 39.03
Andy Thomas 39.09 Personal Best
Stephen Mclean 39.38 Personal Best

Heather Carter 40.23
Lisa Highfield 49.53 Personal Best
Philip Truman 57.29

Matt and Elaine Wood were in Staffordshire for the Newcastle Dales Dash, a 10k multi-terrain race across the reclaimed coal mining landscape west of Newcastle-under-Lyme. The route of the race takes in most of Apedale, now a beautiful Community Country Park with woodlands, meadows and pools. The race then takes a turn around Lymedale, once site of the famous Brymbo pit but now a solar panelled business park with wetlands and fishing ponds incorporated. Results were unavailable at the time of going to press.
