Sandbach Striders

Today myself, Jim and Gaynor ran the Newcastle 10K. There was over 500 people turned out on an absolutely fabulous sunny day. This local race is not for the faint hearted as the first 4 and a half kilometres are all uphill. The start was quick and once we turned to start the climb, I realised I was not as fit as last year, so I changed my game plan to try and just get round.

After the tough climb and when you reach the top, you never know whether to shake hands with God or swear. The next 6 kilometres had a lot of downhill’s with a few uphill’s. At 7K you turned into a tinder path, a bit like the Sandbach Saltine which is a nice flat finish to the line. Jim had to dash off so I was unable to find out how he felt or if he liked the race. Gaynor thought it was a tough race to do in the heat but I’m sure we’ll see her back again next year. Although I just missed getting under the hour, I did get 2nd Vet in my age group and in this heat, I’m happy with that.
