Sandbach Striders

Although it was a relatively quiet week for the members of Sandbach Striders running club, we had a member complete his 100th parkrun, runs around a reservoir in Derbyshire, and a very muddy challenge for one.

This year as a club, we’re starting a new programme to promote and target a number of events and enter en masse. We’re using this to encourage runners to try events and distances they may not have done before, and have the support of fellow members The first of these events was the Lyme Park parkrun on Saturday. 20 of the club turned up to run on trails through the woods around Lyme Park. Darren Varley was first from the club to finish with a time of 20:27, achieving 4th place overall. Full results were as follows:

Also on Saturday, Catherine Winders took on a mission at Capesthorne Hall to complete in the 2017 Born Survivor event. This isn’t a race, it’s more of a challenge, with mud, water, climbs, and many other obstacles to overcome. She commented that to her total surprise, she not only completed the 10k course, but all of the 30 obstacles in her way.

On Sunday, Jo Askey managed to persuade her son on his 12th birthday, that the best way to celebrate would be to watch his parents run. The event was the Carsington 7+, run around the reservoir in Ashbourne. The course is a 7.8 mile circuit of Carsington Water, which is undulating and includes some great views, and some moderate to steep inclines. Jo completed the course in 1:08:07, and received a technical t-shirt for her efforts.
