Well done to all the runners of Sandbach 10k 2021
The weather couldn’t make its mind up about what it was going to do before the race as we moved from sunglasses to umbrellas back to sunglasses and then umbrellas again but by 09:30 it had settled on calm and cloudy for both races making it near to perfect conditions.
The under 16s race which was won by Adam Mayell (M13 category) in a time of 7:45 with the first female Ellie Bushill (F15 category) 4 seconds behind. I personally was blown away by how fast they all were especially when I saw Charlie Smith (M9) & Sebastian Buxton (M7) sprint towards the line. I don’t remember ever being that speedy at that age and I hope I have retired from running by the time I ever race against them. A massive congratulations to every under 16 runner today and wehope you enjoyed your own little taste of the Olympics. Also, well done to their parents for getting them here on a Sunday morning!

RECORDS BROKEN
The 10km race was a new course for 2021 and in addition we had waved starts based on entrants estimated finish time to help reduce congestion and reducing the spread of COVID. The course starts and ends in the boundaries of Sandbach Rugby Club giving an extra opportunity for loved ones to cheer the runners as they do a final lap of the pitches.
Soon into the race Katie Holt began to pull away from the pack to win setting not only a new fastest time for a female but also our first female race winner coming in with a time of 33:27. Well done!
Congratulations to the fastest male Steffan Sayer who was hot on her heals with a time of 34:14.

As part of the day any proceeds from the 10k go to the Patryck Milner Memorial Fund. Patryck tragically lost his life aged 7 and this fund was set up with the initial goal to fund a sports coach who would visit schools in the surrounding area. They also hope to support an all-weather junior coaching/training area at the Rugby Club which would be available to the whole community.
