Sandbach Striders

Tonight I ran the Berryhill 10K. Three things crossed my mind. 1 Why did I agree to do this race. 2 Why did I not remember it was three loops and I had to conquer that hill three times. 3 Why did I do spinning and also kettlebells yesterday (doh).

The first race was the kids, and Lara and Nadine ran with their daddy Mat Simister. They did very well for their age and the fact that they had little legs. Lara put a sprint in at the end and I thought , I’ll have to try that tactic out.

Next came my race. As I lined up I saw some of my old rivals. Sue was looking strong and the F and G man were laughing and saying they really like this race. Well, that’s me out. Soon we were off, one small loop of 2K first.  The field was fast but soon I was at the start again, then on to do the next two laps.  This race is good because it’s all off road. Yes there is some tarmac but then you hit a few uphills in a field and then some downhills. I knew I was struggling as I could not catch anyone tonight. However, I have only just recovered from a horrible virus. So with all the excuses under the sun I decided to try and get under 65 minutes.  Woo hoo 62. 45 . Not a great time but hey those hills are a killer.

If anyone wanted to do a trail type of race and did not mind running the same loop 3 times then go for this one.  Some people did get PBs.  As it is a 7.30pm start, the results and prizes are posted out.
