Sandbach Striders

Members of Sandbach Striders Running Club were in action in no less than five different free weekly 5k parkrun courses around the country.

Closest to home were the eleven Striders who ran the three laps of Astbury mere in Congleton. Claire Dalton earned herself a new personal best time and the full results were as follows:

Matthew Jones found himself on the Kent coast in the scenic seaside town of Whitstable. Finishing in 38th position overall out of a total of 199 runners, Matthews finished the out and back course in 24:01

Also in parkrun action by the sea was Michael Escolme who ran the Crosby parkrun. Overlooking the Irish sea and the iconic sculptures embedded into the beach by Antony Gormley, this out and back course takes runners along the golden sands of Crosby beach. Michael finished the course in a time of 33:27.

Chris Holden was in the Essex town of Colchester, where he ran the Colchester Castle parkrun around the grounds of the imposing Norman castle. Chris completed the parkrun in  24:55.


Mat Simister opted for another local parkrun, finishing the course at Delamare Forest in a time of 25:14.


Craig Edwards was in action at the Lyme Park 7k Night Run. As the name suggests this was a 7k trail route around the picturesque grounds of the beautiful National Trust estate at Lyme. Craig finished the course in 40:55.

Sandbach Striders are once again hosting a free ten week couch to 5k programme to encourage anyone new to or returning to running. All forty places for the course were filled along with a waiting list within just a few hours of booking being open.
