Sandbach Striders

Members of Sandbach Striders running club were involved in events ranging from local 5k parkruns up to a marathon along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. 


At the free weekly 5k parkrun in Congleton eleven Striders were in action with James Boon earning himself a new personal best time for the second week running and Catherine Winders also earning herself a PB.

Two Striders travelled to Delamere Forest to run the parkrun course there. Lynsey Astles was first Strider home in a time of 28:10 earning herself a personal best and Claire Dalton was close behind in 29.49.

Michael Escolme ran the Lancaster parkrun, a two lap trip around the beautiful Williamson Park where the iconic Ashton memorial looks down over the city. Michael finished in a time of 40.20.

Duncan Robertson ran the South Manchester parkrun at Platt Fields, his tenth different parkrun in a time of 25.06.

The inaugural Knighton 20, a 20 mile road race in Staffordshire which has replaced the old Stafford 20, took place on Sunday with three Striders participating.

Three Striders headed north to run the Grim Up North Canal Canter.  Lou Hayward, Craig Edwards and Mik Escolme ran the Marathon distance out and back route along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, with a stop for ice cream!

Also heading north was Tom Mayell who ran the Dronfield 10k, a two lap hilly road race set in Dronfield Woodhouse, near Sheffield. Tom completed the course in 46.58.

Steve Dunlop headed South to the Silverstone Half Marathan, completing three laps of the race circuit in a personal best time of 2.01.45.

Also running a Half-marathon were Tim Woods and Simon Dawber who ran the Vitality Liverpool Half-marathon. Simon was first Strider home in a time of 1:50:26 with Tim narrowly behind in  2:08:27

Also in action were Karen Lovatt and Paul Nicholls who were in Wales to run the Brynkinalt trail race. Paul ran the 20km race in 2:14:04 and Karen the 10km in 1:14:32
