The popular village of 'Abersoch' is located at the end of the Llyn Peninsular, North Wales.
I've done this race 3 times in the past and always enjoyed it, mainly for its stunning scenery, but it
also has an added attraction in that the last mile is run along the length of the beach.
Fortunately tide was out this year, so no running in soft sand! My mum also lives there, so for me
its always been good opportunity to catch up with family and fit a race in.
Race day arrived with clear blue sky and a cool breeze.I put on my borrowed Striders vest (thank you Heather!) and after a warm up, parked myself at the front of the start line with the 'elite runners', well why not! The starting gun went and I was soon overtaken by the fast guys (and girl!), and headed out on an undulating road around the bay.
The first 2 miles went fine, and i felt fairly comfortable, but mile 3 was pretty well all uphill to the top of the headland, and i lost a bit of ground and my legs felt pretty shot. The next 2 miles was
generally more downhill, fortunately I recovered a bit here, before the last mile dash along the beach, the last mile run also had the added attraction of a RAF helicopter landing slap bang on
The finishing line appeared and I finished in a respectable 40 minutes 41 seconds, although I've run faster years ago (in my 20's), it was a PB of recent years.
weekend of it, combined with a great run, then I'd definitely recommend this one.
